Arlene Zide was born in 1940 in New York City. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in and teaches at the City Colleges of Chicago. Her work been published in the US, Canada, and in India. While living in India, she translated many Indian women poets. Her translations from Hindi and other Indian languages have appeared in places as diverse as Indian Literature, The Malahat Review, International Quarterly, and Translation Review. Her book, In Their Own Voice: An Anthology of Contemporary Indian Women Poets, was published by Penguin Books Ltd. (India) in 1993.
