Carolyne Wright has lived in both Calcutta and Dhaka (Bangladesh), collecting and translating the work of 20th-century Bengali women writers for two anthologies, A Bouquet of Roses on the Burning Ground: Poetry by Bengali Women and Crossing the Seasonal River: Stories of Bengal by Women. She has also published translations of the exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin (The Game in Reverse, 1995) and a West Bengali poet, Anuradha Mahapatra (Another Spring, Darkness, 1996). Wright is the recipient of many grants and fellowships, including a Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship, Witter Bynner Foundation Grant in Poetry, and an NEA Grant in Translation. She is currently teaching at the University of Miami in the Creative Writing MFA Program.
