In the
White Moonlight: An Exploration of Tamil Poetry, Music, & Dance

The Center for the Art of Translation presents "In the
Long White Moonlight," a unique program featuring music, dance,
and literary translation in an exploration of the poetry of South
India Sunday, June 3, 2001 at 5pm at the Gershwin Theater, 2350
Turk (West of Masonic), University of San Francisco. Selected poems
composed in Tamil will be translated not only into words but also
into music and dance, bringing the poems off the printed page in
a vibrant performance. World-renowned Carnatic musician and composer
CHITRAVINA N. RAVIKIRAN has traveled from India for the world-premiere
of his composition "In the Long White Moonlight." Bay
Area dancer ARCHANA VENKATESAN will perform her original choreography
and vocalist KALA GANAPATHY will perform with musicians from the
BHARATAKALANJALI ORCHESTRA (Madras).
